The orphaned Poornima is consigned to the care of her grandfather by her uncaring aunt. Grandfather lives in isolation up a mountain with only goats and the boy goatherd, Jaggu, for company. Poornima enjoys an idyllic life until her aunt returns. Auntie has found a buyer for her niece. She is to become the companion of the wheelchair bound, Rupa. Forced to leave her mountain retreat, Poornima becomes firm friends with Rupa despite the presence of the scowling nanny. She receives a good education too. Even so, Poornima pines for the mountains. Jaggu pines for Poornima and, when on the doctor's advice, Poornima is returned to the hills, it's Rupa's turn to pine for her. Brought up the mountain for a visit, Rupa enjoys the health-giving properties of fresh air and goats' milk. When her wheelchair is tossed over a cliff by Jaggu (who resents the presence of the interloper)a miracle occurs. The story is adapted from the children's classic "Heidi".

Balraj (Dharmendra), affectionately called Raj, by his elder brother (Nana Palsikar) and sister Vija (Madhumati), is a student in college in the arts semester. He finds one such family in Gandhinagar, which consists of Choudhury Hukumat Rai (Ashok Kumar), a lawyer by profession, his wife (Nimmi), and only daughter Shanti (Mala Sinha). Hukumat takes an instant liking to Raj, and tells him that his wife will only allow him to take up residence if he tells her that he is already married. Raj reluctantly does so, and thus acquires residence with the Rai family. Eventually Mrs. Rai takes a liking to Raj, so does Shanti. Shanti finds out Raj and her dad had lied to the family about Raj's marital status, she confronts Raj, and he readily admits that he lied.

They become best of friends. When other kids make fun of Roshan, the judge`s on supports him. One day he takes Roshan to his home, where his mom Malti (Nanda)welcomes him with love and affection. But Mahesh throws the boy out of his house, saying that he is not worth our respect and love, as he is illegitimate. After all this Roshan gets depressed and falls into bad company. Mahesh`s son tries to stop him and dies in a car accident. This leaves Roshan under more depression. He got the engage with the theft crime.But he was innocent.It came in the court of Mahesh Kapoor.Abdul goes to Ashok Kumar to fight this case as Ashok is a lawyer.He tells him in front of Ashok`s wife who was actually mother of Roshan,that when and under what circumstances he found Roshan.She immediately recognizes that her son.She testifies in favor of him in the court.Mahesh also recognizes Meena and the son and admit his fault.
